Taking Ginseng pill and calcium pill at the same time? will it not work?

I accidentally took one after another, will this nullify the effects since you can't take Advil and Tylenol at the same time, but i just took a ginseng and calcium pill...

And i was too lazy to eat so i took the pills before eating i haven't eating for 24 hours before that and now i am eating a lot of food of the moment, should i have taken those pills after i was done eating?|||Why can't you take Advil and Tylenol at the same time? Anyway, what you did will be fine. But save your $$. It has been proven that ginseng has no affect on memory. And taking supplements after you eat reduces the chances of them making you feel sick.

Eating Korean ginseng actually does nothing to me but make me feel cooler?

korean folks say that ginseng is only for people who have cool body temperature. for me, i am korean but ginseng actually brings my body temp. down..though many people say it raises it. my body temp. never goes up after i eat it, it just goes down. is there something wrong with me?|||I don't know. I am not a 한의사. but in my 2 theorys,

1.your inner body temperature goes up, so you may feel cold outside because inner temperature push coldness to outside of your body. if you have hot body temperature outside, actually you are cold person inside and if you have cold body temperature inside, actually you are hot person inside.

2. It could be that ginseng raise body temperature of people who have cold body and lower body temperature of people who have hot body.

Don't eat ginseng if you think you are a hot person. that's what doctors say.

Is expiry date of Ginseng really that crucial?

I take Ginseng for years and sometimes even after the expiration date, my friend says expiration date in this case is just for the producer and not really significant for the user. Is it true?|||no, its not true. the expiration date is for when the medication is suppose to used by, or discarded. if a medication is way past the date i wouldn't recommend using it. if it was a couple days or a week past, there probably wouldn't be any harm in using it. the expiration date is for when the drugs desired effects are estimated to change and either become weaker or unsafe to take.|||no. the effect just might not be as strong. the expiration date is just an estimate

I no longer live there but I think you hit it on the head with the last part of your question...

New York apparently exploits wild ginseng fairly heavily because of commercial sales. So with lots of people searching it becomes necessary to go deeper and deeper into the forest to find areas suitable for ginseng growth which have not been repeatedly harvest. I have never tried, but I understand it doesn't grow very well under cultivation.... much better in wild environments. Sorry man.

Which ginseng is the best for a woman who needs energy and sex drive?

I am looking to purchase some tomorrow so please any suggestions. Coffee is wearing my body out!|||One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying your sex drive. If your on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido.

One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn't the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don't cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it's the female version of viagra. I had to find out.

I would always have a weak orgasm too (if I had one at all), which after trying this sex enhancer, it boosted them tremendously. I don't get multiple orgasms but I've had plenty since being on these herbs. It's seriously like the best vibrator ride you've ever experienced. These things make me horny all the time, some days I don't even take them because the urge is just too strong.

Don't try out single herbs because they don't do it like the blend of herbs these scientists and researchers pick out. I've tried a couple of them by itself and they did crap. The stuff that I'm on is called Hersolution, at the time I saved money on it at herenhancement.com . Make sure you get the 3 month supply that way you fall under the guarantee/return policy if the herbs don't work for you, you can return them with no questions ask. I bet they will work though and you won't have any problems. Also if your on medication of any sort, check out the gel because if your like me, you wouldn't want to swallow any thing that might react with the medications your already on.

Well have a good day and hopefully you solved your problem.|||dong quai for women. ginsing is for men mostly and over forty. i didn't know this, was using it, got pg and spotted. i stopped the sang immediately and had a normal child.

Is it possible to consume too much ginseng?

I drink green tea with ginseng everyday and I love the taste and how it makes me feel. Lately I've been feeling a little.... bound up if you know what I mean and I'm worried that I've drinking too much tea. I drink about three cups a day. Thanks!|||Yes, but not in the amount that is in your tea, assuming it is a store-bought blend. It is the tea that is "binding" not the Ginseng. For most people 3 cups wouldn't have that effect but some teas have more tannins than others. You can probably counter that by drinking a cup of apple juice or eating an additional piece of fruit every day or adding flax seed to your breakfast cereal. If this is a tea you brew, use only hot water, not boiling, and steep only 3 to 4 minutes, to extract less tannins from your tea.|||Yes you can but it would have to be a significant amount like more than 10 cups a day.|||I'm not sure women should take ginseng, it's something like steroids:

Will taking a couple ginseng pills have any significance on a hangover?

Say it was a drug hangover, or alcohol whatever. Yeah yeah drugs kill people.|||Haven't heard of ginseng being beneficial in hangover.

After a night out drinking - the most important thing is to drink water the next day. Dehydration is one of the main causes of hangovers and a headache is usually the first sign that the brain is dehydrated. It is essential to replace the delicate balance in the body by consuming an adequate amount of water, as well as eating a healthy balanced meal (even though you may not feel like it!).

To treat a hangover the natural way and cleanse and detox the body of toxins (brought about by excess alcohol) herbal and homeopathic remedies can be gentle, yet very effective hangover cures. Natural hangover cures can help to kick-start your body and restore balance.

Herbs such as Taraxacum officinalis (Dandelion), Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) and Pelargonium reniforme can serve to flush out the system, rejuvenate liver functioning and eliminate bloating. I am obsessed with arizona green tea with ginseng. I drink it all the time. But today my friend told me that her mom read that ginseng is really bad for women because it kills their eggs. I am 16 and definitely not going to be pregnant any time soon, but is it unhealthy for me to have ginseng?|||Don't worry. The only time it is recommended to stay away from it is during pregnancy because it has a form of caffeine. Same as tea, including some herbals. I wouldn't worry about female reproduction with it, but you should consider if you are consuming too much caffeine in a day. I would be more worried about the sugar levels. You may burn them when you're young, but when you get older its harder. Habits are hard to break as you get older.|||i've heard that ginseng is really good for your skin.im not sure if it kills your eggs but i don't think it is so. there is only a a little amount of ginseng in arizona. as it is an expensive herb.(you can barely taste it) go ahead and have all you want! i love ginseng containing products and nothing happens to me.|||Too much water will hurt you too. I have not taken Siberian Ginseng Extract, however, I have done a course in the subject of herbs.

The areas that it can help are list below

Brain Function, one of the most popular uses for Siberian ginseng is to improve memory. It has been used in Chinese medicine for many years for this purpose, among others. There have been multiple studies, which demonstrate improved cognitive function in people who supplemented with Siberian ginseng. Perhaps for this reason, it is one of the supplements currently being considered as a way to help Alzheimer's patients make cognitive improvements

Immune System, a 2001 study clearly shows that Siberian ginseng extract inhibited the replication of several different viruses under laboratory conditions. The viruses studied were human rhinovirus (HRV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza A. This evidence strongly suggests that Siberian ginseng may be a way to decrease symptoms from colds and flu. Siberian ginseng has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect, making it useful to some individuals in the treatment of arthritis.

Energy Level, the Chinese also used Siberian ginseng to help boost energy levels. These days, people use it to improve physical stamina, both during sports and for everyday activities. Anecdotal evidence suggests that Siberian ginseng may also help alleviate some of the energy problems associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Dosage and Side Effects, the dosage of Siberian ginseng dependent on your body chemistry and the reason you are supplementing. Many people start out by taking 500 milligrams of the powdered root in capsule form, and may increase the dosage if their body tolerates it. Because Siberian ginseng has energy producing properties, it can cause nervousness and insomnia in some individuals. It should also be taken in the morning, when its energizing effects will be welcome.

In addition to nervousness and insomnia, possible side effects include high blood pressure, irregular heart rate and headache. For this reason, individuals who begin supplementing with Siberian ginseng should start at low doses. Siberian ginseng, can have an additive effect and should not be taken with that medication.

Is Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey good for you?

I'm planning on toning up, and losing all my chubbiness. I want results as fast as I can, doing it the healthiest way possible. I figured, this drink would be an amazing substitute for my soda addiction. But I just read the can and it says 70 calories per serving, 3 servings per can. That didn't sound too good.

Is this stuff good for you, or just as bad as any other drink?|||Green tea in general is good for you! and yes, its a great substitute for soda. The health properties of green tea include:

increased metabolism (perfect for trying to lose weight!)

preventing cancer

fighting cancer cells without harming normal cells

lowering cholesterol

decreasing the risk of heart disease

fighting off tooth decay

the only negative effect that I'm aware of is insomnia from the caffeine, but I can only imagine that's if you drink like ten cans a day haha.

So even if you aren't dieting, I would recommend green tea in any form as a great healthy addition to your diet! Also, ginseng and honey have good health qualities too!

Just be aware that Arizona green tea does have a bit of sugar, although I think they use splenda. I would think in moderation Arizona green tea is good, considering the amount of sugar, but you are still getting the health benefits from the green tea, ginseng, and honey, so it might balance out. Try getting some green tea bags also and drinking that in addition to a few Arizonas.|||Green Tea itself is great. Any tea itself is a great beverage. It's the sugar content in it that's not good.

Arizona green tea and honey probably has either too much sugar or high frutose corn syrup. I don't suggest you to drink that however, it's probably better than soda.

If you truly want to lose weight, it's the sugar that you need to take out. Brew your own tea and use a sugar substitute. I'd suggest you to skip the sugar substitute too.|||Personally if you're trying to tone up i think you should try to brew some tea on your own and add sweetener as desired. It's better that way because you know exactly what's going into it and you know that no chemicals or fake sweeteners have been added. Also if you're trying to tone up just go easy on any sugar/sweetener you use.

As for the Arizona Green Tea being good for you, I'm not sure but play it safe and brew you're own.

That's what I do:)|||I honestly dont know if any tea is good for anyone...my cousin tells me that drinking tea with a meal will block the iron from getting to your body and could make a person anemic. But with this info I'm gonna talk to my doc. Good luck with losing your chubbiness, and toning up!|||They say it is..but my husband lived off green tea for about 6 months and ended up with kidney stones. Doctor said.. NO GREEN TEA..because it is what caused his issue.

How do you use red ginseng bean jelly?

We received some from a coworker and are curious as to how to use it. I've eaten a bit just as it is, but were wondering if you can use it in cooking?|||G'day Janinenc2002,

Thanks for your question.

As I understand it, it is taken to stimulate sexual function and increase energy. You might want to eat it in an intimate dinner for a special friend. Not so good for family dinners.

Red ginseng is Panax ginseng that has been heated, either through steaming or sun-drying. It is frequently marinated in an herbal brew which results in the root becoming extremely brittle. This version of ginseng is associated with stimulating sexual function and increasing energy. Red ginseng is always produced from cultivated roots, usually from either China or South Korea. Some imported cultivated ginseng has tested positive for pesticides.

A double-blind, crossover study of Red ginseng's effects on impotence show a marked positive effect. In general, ginseng is a popular herb in alternative medicine.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards|||I don't use jelly in cooking, I use it as a spread. I thought the root of the ginseng was used. I have not seen ginseng since I was a kid. I am curious where you have found it here in the states. I had never heard of the berries as being edible. I had seen it years ago while hunting in Southern Minnesota. When I had seen it it was growing on the western side of a hill where it would get the afternoon sun. We were told that if you were going to harvest it you need to take the root and place the leaves and berries back in the hole, like transplanting.

Who do I give wild ginseng to be delivered to in Mabinogi?

It's not the gift item it says to be delivered. I don't have a quest that says who it is to be delivered to. Do I do that one first and then do I get the Deliver Wild Ginseng to Manus after that before it's 9 am again? Is an intake of Ginseng tea in the morning and Ginko tea at night going to help me and my brain?

I would like to better my mental ability, specially with midterms coming up, and was referred to ginseng and ginkgo biloba. Since I can't pick between the two, and I don't like pills I decided to drink their teas. Would that diet work? One cup of each a day.

Or does anyone recommend either or to avoid taking both?|||Ginseng and Ginkgo are going to work better TOGETHER than separately. And they're going to work best for about 4 hours after you consume them. No sense taking Ginkgo at night.

Here's another solution to the non-pill thing. Herbs, Etc. makes a liquid extract called "Remember Now" that is alcohol based. You just put the drops in some fruit juice or water and drink. It has Ginkgo, Gotu Kola and Eleuthero (aka Siberian Ginseng) as well as other herbs. You can order it online: http://www.herbsetc.com/Shopping/r/remem鈥?/a>

Or you can buy Ginkgo %26amp; Ginseng as liquid extracts and make your own combo. The extracts are stronger than any tea you can mix up.|||Hello,

it is ok to take both herbs daily. They are both safe. Just to let you know the pills are usually stronger in mg's. For your studies and or mid terms i would suggest taking an amino acid called L-phenylalanine, it boosts your concentraiton levels to an astounding level. Its safe and you can buy it at GNC health food store|||A bright brain depends on good blood circulation, balanced meals, good assimulation in the intestines, exercise, regular sleep, BREATHING, meditation, and some herbs. contain ginseng, What is the purpose of the ginseng on their foods?|||Ginseng isn't a main ingredient in Korean food, but it is used probably more than in other ethnic foods. My mom makes a cornish hen dish stuffed with glutinous rice and ginseng.

Ginseng has many health benefits ranging from better focusing ability, alertness, regulating blood sugar etc.

Korean Ginseng tea comes in two forms dried ginseng and ginseng extract.|||Probably depends on the cook. I am Korean and never put ginseng in any of my recipes and don't recall this as a common ingredient in Korean foods that any of my relatives have made either.

As for the use of ginseng - I have only seen it in tea forms, gum, etc. in Korea.

There could be recipes, but again as I stated earlier it might depend on the cook. We just don't use it in our recipes.

I then sleep for s few hours and wake up in middle of the night wide awake. I am up from 6 am in the morning getting back about 6 at night. Had all relevant medical tests done bloods thyroid etc but all come back normal.|||I know of no proven health benefits from taking ginseng, so I suggest you stop taking it and see if you feel better. It shouldn't make you feel more tired... it shouldn't really make you fee more anything! Use the money you save on improving your diet or take a general multivitamin supplement.

It is an extremely informative site and they offer archives of their research and articles at no cost to the public.

The info that they put on their website is very reliable - they don't glean anything from the rest of the web, but from medical journals and articles from universities and research facilities. This is where I go for information on just about everything. They've been around for about 30 years and are a nonprofit org. Ginseng is a perennial herb that starts flowering in its fourth year. It grows in the United States, Canada, %26amp; the mountainous forests of eastern Asia. The translucent, yellowish brown roots are harvested when plants reach between 3 %26amp; 6 years of age. This herb has been used in the Orient for 5000 years as a tonic. According to traditional Chinese medicine's philosophy of opposites, American ginseng is a cool or yin tonic used to treat hot symptoms such as stress, insomnia, palpitations, %26amp; headache.

In parallel, Asian ginseng is hot or yang %26amp; is used to treat cold diseases. In the Orient, ginseng is considered a cure all. This stems from the Doctrine of Signatures, because the root is said to resemble a man's appearance %26amp; is therefore useful to treat all of man's ailments. Throughout history, the root has been used as a treatment for asthenia, atherosclerosis, blood %26amp; bleeding disorders, colitis, %26amp; relief of symptoms associated with aging, cancer, %26amp; senility. Ginseng is also widely believed to be an aphrodisiac.

Ginseng is classified as an 'adaptogen', helping the body to adapt to stress, improving stamina %26amp; concentration %26amp; providing a normalizing %26amp; restorative effect. It is also widely promoted as an aphrodisiac. The Korean root is highly prized %26amp; the most expensive. Long term use of ginseng can lead to symptoms similar to those of corticosteroid poisoning, including hypertension, nervousness %26amp; sleeplessness in some subjects, yet hypotension %26amp; tranquillizing effects in others. The benefits of ginseng treatment are by no means confirmed at the pharmacological level.

One promising example of cancer preventive effects that are not specific to any organ is Panax ginseng, an herb with a long medicinal history. The genus name of ginseng, Panax, is derived from the Greek pan (all) akos (cure), meaning cure-all. No single herb can be considered a panacea, but ginseng comes close to it. Ginseng is a tonic herb that helps to improve overall health %26amp; restore the body to balance, %26amp; helps the body to heal by itself. Its protective influence against cancer has been shown by extensive preclinical %26amp; epidemiological studies.

|||There is no good evidence that ANY form of ginseng is much use for ANY thing.

It has been touted as useful for "cancer" (ignoring the fact that cancer isn't a single disease with one cause or treatment) impotence, diabetes, and variously as a "cure all" for whatever ails you.

Both Asian and Siberian Ginseng may interact with anti-coagulants and other drugs. Asian Ginseng has been linked to headaches, insomnia, diarrhea, hypertension, mania, and cardiovascular and endocrine disorders.

I read this article http://www.shvoong.com/medicine-and-heal鈥?/a> but I don't know if its any different from the ginseng I've always used.|||No difference!|||one is for stamiana, endurance

....one is for energy

I forgot which is which., but thats the difference|||There are different forms of plants and the composition of nutrients and other phytochemicals changes from one to the next. Sometimes it is very subtle and other times it is significant.

Where a plant is grown can also change its properties significantly. For example, most people who enjoy wine know that the grapes can only be grown in certain soils and certain regions. If you grow them anywhere else, you don't get good flavors. Well, those flavors come from the phytochemicals in the grapes.

The USDA used to track the nutritional differences between produce based on where it was grown. It used to be publicly known that a carrot grown in Florida soil was less nutritious than one grown in Michigan.

The functional difference between panax ginseng and American ginseng may be subtle but a master herbalist is very aware of these differences.|||There are several different kinds of "ginseng".

Panax Ginseng is "asian ginseng" and it comes in white and red ginseng. From wikipedia:

Panax Ginseng promotes Yang energy, improves circulation, increases blood supply, revitalizes and aids recovery from weakness after illness, stimulates the body.

Panax Ginseng is available in two forms:

The form called white ginseng is grown for four to six years, and then peeled and dried to reduce the water content to 12% or less. White Ginseng is air dried in the sun and may contain less of the therapeutic constituents. It is thought by some that enzymes contained in the root break down these constituents in the process of drying. Drying in the sun bleaches the root to a yellowish-white color.

The form called red ginseng is harvested after six years, is not peeled and is steam-cured, thereby giving them a glossy reddish-brown coloring. Steaming the root is thought to change its biochemical composition and also to prevent the breakdown of the active ingredients. The roots are then dried.

Asian ginseng is usually Warm in nature. Panax quinquefolius, or american ginseng, is Cold in nature and promotes Yin.

from wikipedia:

According to Traditional Chinese/Korean Medicine, American Ginseng promotes Yin energy, cleans excess Yang in the body, calms the body. The reason it has been claimed that American ginseng promotes Yin (shadow, cold, negative, female) while East Asian ginseng promotes Yang (sunshine, hot, positive, male) is that, according to traditional Korean medicine, things living in cold places are strong in Yang and vice versa, so that the two are balanced. Chinese/Korean ginseng grows in northeast China and Korea, the coldest area known to Korean in the old time, so ginseng from there is supposed to be very Yang. And originally, American ginseng was imported into China via subtropical Canton, the seaport next to Hong Kong, so Chinese doctors believed that American ginseng must be good for Yin, because it came from a hot area. However they did not know that American ginseng can only grow in temperate regions. Nonetheless the root is legitimately classified as more Yin because it generates fluids.

Why do my painkillers seem to work better when taken with my multivitamins with ginseng?

They seem to work better and faster when taken with the ginseng multivitamin why is this??|||Placebo effect. There is no way ginseng is causing painkillers to break down and absorb into your system faster. I have heard ginseng said to have some pain relieving properties, but whatever amount is in your vitamins is almost certainly a trace amount and certainly not enough to cause any clinical effect. Next time go for organic herbs as they (and wildcrafted herbs) are 7-10 times higher in the phytonutrients/chemicals that cure and prevent disease. conventional herbs are much cheaper for the manufacturer and are often purchased form third world countries where they use things like ddt and human manure to fertilize as they can pay workers pennies a day to pick them.

Also you want to buy tinctures and not capsules/tablets as these are very easily absorbed bypassing digestion and going right to the bloodstream. The alcohol menstrum in the tincture extracts some of the healing chemicals that water cannot but teas are 2nd best.

Actually, most non poisonous herbs are very safe and have far less side effects than the average drug. So often people worry about alternative health one of the best things they might be doing for their body and yet have no problems eating fries every day, junk food, fast foods, no exercise, toxic thoughts, hate, smoking, drinking, drugs, low nutrition foods and then worry is 3 cups of peppermint tea going to hurt me. I would not worry.

I have taken a large number of herbs and have over 500 bulk herbs and many bottle/tinctures in my house and took many, many herbs together and never once have I experienced any harm from any of them, the worst being cayenne burned for a while when not in a capsule.

It is very easy to quickly harvest a lot of ginkgo leaves if you know of a tree in your area. They are easy to identify due to the distinctive leaves. harvest in the fall and spread out to dry or tincture them fresh or dried. Dried herbs last about a year and tinctures can last over 100 years. You will likely save over 90% of the cost of buying them and have something stronger than most herbs on the market. One big gathering of ginkgo leaves would probably yield enough to last decades, so once or twice is all you need to do it if you get enough and tincture it all so it will last decades.

Is it safe to eat ginseng if your nursing a baby?

While nursing is it safe to have ginseng in your diet?|||Is Ginseng Safe for Nursing Mothers?

By Dee Negron

Many pregnant and nursing moms want to stay as far away from synthetic medications as possible. As a result, they look into using herbs and other natural remedies as an alternative. Herbs can be a wonderful alternative and many are very helpful. The problem arises when the assumption is made that just because herbs are natural, they are 100% safe. This simply isn't true. Herbs can be very powerful, some are potentially dangerous, and all should be taken while under the supervision of your doctor or a certified herbalist.

One of the herbs nursing women ask about most frequently is ginseng. Many new mothers find themselves stressed out and fatigued. They start to look for anything that will help them get through the next harried day and sleepless night. Ginseng seems to be the answer. However, most forms of ginseng are unsafe for nursing mothers.

There are two different categories of Ginseng: those that are true, or Panax ginsengs, and those that are referred to as ginsengs simply because they produce the same adaptogenic effects as true ginsengs. The true Panax ginsengs are Chinese Ginseng, Korean Ginseng, and North American Ginseng. The two other most common ginsengs are Siberian Ginseng and Indian Ginseng. Both of these have no true relation to ginseng.

Ginsenosides are one of the sets of chemical compounds in Panax ginseng. These ginsenosides make up the active ingredients in true ginsengs. Ginsenosides have quite a few effects on the body. They alter blood flow to the brain, raise blood pressure, lower blood sugar levels, and stimulate the immune system. Ginseng also contains several steroid compounds that mimic the effects of anabolic steroids. One in particular, Panaxtriol, has very similar effects to estrogen use, which is why Panax ginsengs are unsafe for prolonged use in premenopausal women and shouldn't be used at all during pregnancy.

There have also been reported pediatric cases of tachycardia and hypertension that appear to be in direct correlation with the breastfeeding mother's use of Panax ginsengs. However, as with most herbs, no official studies or research has been done to determine the extent of any effects Panax ginsengs, transferred through human milk, might have on an infant. Logic would allow, though, that because Panax ginsengs contain such strong chemical compounds, it would not be wise to expose a baby's developing system to the effects.

If a nursing mother still wants to take a Panax ginseng she should use extreme caution. Watch the baby closely. Signs of adverse side effects would be nervousness, shakiness, heightened anxiety, insomnia, skin rashes, and diarrhea. She should also inform her baby's pediatrician that she is taking Panax ginseng so that baby's heartbeat and blood pressure can be closely monitored. The mother should also be aware that Panax ginsengs could contribute to a low milk supply.

It is highly recommended, though, that if a mother feels she needs help fighting stress and fatigue she choose something other than Panax ginseng. Siberian ginseng has the same adaptogenic effects on stress levels and fatigue that any of the Panax ginsengs have. It does not, however, contain the ginsenosides or steroids that Panax ginsengs do and is safe for nursing mothers. Indian Ginseng is also an adaptogen, and though not quite as effective, is also safe for nursing mothers.

05/2001|||...as it can have a number of significant side effects, and its safety in pregnant and breastfeeding women has not been established. Also, many ginseng tinctures contain high levels of alcohol which, obviously, isn't recommended either.

Bear in mind, too, that there are several different plants, botanically, that use the common name "ginseng", including Panax (aka Asian ginseng) and Eleutherococcus (aka Siberian ginseng). Each plant has different chemical components.

For more details on the clinical uses for ginseng, safety and side effects, read this article from MedlinePlus.

In short, given the potential for significant side effects, hormonal impact and lack of proven safety, wait until the baby is weaned.|||There is so much that is unknown and up for debate in the supplement world that I think it is best to err on the side of caution. Some herbs have a stimulant or hormonal effect, and those effects can be multiplied in your tiny baby. I know that it can feel like you aren't your own person sometimes after having a baby. You're tired, but you can't even have a cold diet coke! Luckily it isn't like you have to give up a whole food group. Just a few nonessentials over a few months, and the rewards are so worth it.

The links I added have some info on supplements and nursing, also a little on OTC drugs. I hope it helps!|||if you are eating a healthy well balanced diet, do you really need ginseng? is it a spice or seasoning that you add to a recipe?? everything you ingest will end up in the milk supply, so consider that before you eat or drink anything.|||It is strongly adviced NOT to use ginseng, in pregnant women because it can cause miscarriage or malformations, and in nursing babies because it can cause intoxication, agitation, and other effects.|||maybe celiac and your thyroid maybe low after child birth. Not eating gluten grains gave me 1000X more energy. I would not take ginseng when I breast fed a baby. It may make the baby too much.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng)

Panax Ginseng is not considered a "safe" substance for long-term use in lactating women. Ginseng may cause estrogenic side effects as well as platelet changes. The most common form is the American root called Panax quinquefolium L. (this is an endangered species). There is also an Asian variety (panax ginseng), also called Korean or Chinese ginseng. These two varieties are practically identical. No data are available concerning transfer into human milk. According to Hale, no pediatric concerns have been reported but caution is urged. Also known as white ginseng, red ginseng, panax, minimycin, and red kooga. Possible side effects include tachycardia and hypertension. Can I grow my Ginseng plant outside in a planter in Scotland?

I have grown a ginseng plant in my conservatory from a 3 inch plant in a ceramic pot to a 6 foot bush. Is it possible to place it outside in a planter and is it hardy enough to survive a Scottish winter?|||I doubt it would survive. Here in the Highlands, my rosemary plant died this winter and I would imagine ginseng is more tender than my rosemary.

EDIT: Though this is a page from eBay, it may help to answer your question. I am NOT promoting this item, just trying to help you with some cultural instructions for it.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Korean-Ginseng-Pan鈥?/a>|||Dr Frank

Ginseng plants don't normally tolerate too much heat and therefore like a shaded spot - our wonderful Scottish weather should be ok for it.

But they don't tolerate moist soil, so I reckon our wet weather over the Autumn and Winter wouldn't suit it.|||You must have a huge conservatory!

I have no idea about the answer to your conundrum - but I would leave well alone. Now we know what you are getting up to in your retirement....|||leave it in doors in till it glow more bigger if you can,

Friend gave me american ginseng tea; is it safe to drink a cup?

I had a cup of green tea earlier and I don't take any medications. I've heard ginseng is a strong herb and I was wondering if it was safe to just brew a cup of tea and try it.|||We are hearing more and more about how helpful green tea can be for many conditions and for maintaining overall good health. Green tea does contain caffeine, in lesser amounts than coffee; so it is applicable for weight loss plus certain antioxidants for heart health. Scientists who research and study natural foods seem to keep on rolling with new information about green tea.

Truthfully, everyone should drink green tea every day; but now we'll talk about a couple of the reasons why we say that.

Green tea has stimulants in it that are helpful but mild in comparison to coffee, and there are a lot of people who do not tolerate coffee very well. If you would like a stimulant drink that won't make you nervous or jittery, then green tea is an excellent choice. Along similar lines, this tea is very helpful and useful for increasing your metabolism in a healthy way, and therefore is great for those who are trying to lose weight. The caffeine percentage for coffee is about twice the amount found in green teas. As you have probably seen, some of the really high energy drinks can cause issues with some people. So you can get your stimulating drink without concerns with staying up all night.

If you have arthritis, or related disorders, then you should take a look at green tea because it can offer support and even preventative action. There are anti-inflammatory properties in green tea, and that makes it effective for arthritis and other similar inflammation-aggravated conditions. Drinking green tea, or taking in capsule, over time will certainly provide some measure of relief or support for those with pain associated with joint inflammation, etc.

One thing is certain, drinking green tea will only help you and won't hurt you, so we believe you owe it to yourself to include green tea in your diet and see what happens.

There are infection fighting and healing abilities in green tea due to the levels and presence of catechins which are contained in the antioxidants. Then there is food poisoning which could be helped and supported by the antioxidants in green tea. A regular regimen of green tea consumption will only make your body more resistant to various infections. Green tea can help, but there's nothing like an ounce of prevention by being cautious with possible infection sources, etc. The health benefits found in green tea are just so incredible, we feel at least. There appear to be few risks involved with green tea, while it is an inexpensive and easy to find food that can be enjoyed in a number of ways, hot or cold. So there it is - we hope you will feel excited and inspired to go out and get some green tea, today, and then use it every day for fantastic health.

The benefits of green tea are enormous and powerful, and who knows what else will become known about it. This food is flexible because you can take it as capsule, other food alternatives, and of course drink the tea. Yes, the more you enjoy green tea, then the more your body will enjoy the healthy support it offers.|||deni, its safe to drink ginseng cup , if you don't have problems!|||Yes it is
